In the Gers, the Armagnac appellation covers three terroirs:
Armagnac-Ténarèze, where the Baïse River flows, spanning over the north-western part of the Gers, around Condom. Consisting of sandy-clay soils and clay-limestone “terreforts”, it produces authentic wine spirits of outstanding quality.
Bas-Armagnac, to the west, is a hilly landscape home to poor clayey-siliceous and acidic soils with traces of ironpan. They produce renowned, light, fruity and delicate wine spirits.
Haut-Armagnac, located to the south and east around Auch and Lectoure, consists of only a few islets. It is planted on hillsides on predominantly limestone and clay-limestone soils.
